anthony bourdain

bourdain.jpga cook's tour is a book i've hesitated to buy for quite sometime now - i wasn't sure whether i'd be interested enough to finish reading it.

finally acquired a copy last weekend and i must say, i really dig this rockstar chef. immensely. this guy can really, really write.

he is, first and foremost a chef. then an author. a tv series host. the program we watch on astro is just a spinoff from his fame as a writer (the book that got him his spanking badboy fame is kitchen confidential where he writes about what really goes on in the kitchen when the chef and his entourage of helpers prepare your meals)

a cook's tour is more about culture and travelling and less about culinary treats or bizarre food. this man is branzenly unpretentious (he lays down his opinions unapologetically and for this i love his guts to pieces), brutally no-bullshitly honest, arrogantly egotistical (a real cowboy swaggering in an apron) and is a moody sulky broody rebel. an irresistable package.

his ability to describe anything - food, atmosphere, attitude, hotel rooms just blows me away. i find myself reading slower and slower because i want that book to last, and because i will miss his voice in my head when i'm done with it.

can't wait to get kitchen confidential :) rawk on bourdain!!

I've spotted him in KK before :D He's a lot taller and bigger than on TV, and I almost couldn't believe my eyes! I didn't get to talk to him though, he walked on too fast :P

it would be cooler to travel around the world and get paid for doing it.
