2. search for the song/artist you want

3. add it to your favourite list (heart it)

4. access your favourite list

5. launch the juke.blog

and you're good to go! no downloads needed, no hassle, and its all free!

*sits quietly in the chaos, lapping it up*
Posted by: thisguy at March 11, 2005 11:41 PM
Ok, radioblog sucks
The songs list is so limited... tried adding songs into my list and it just froze. I clicked on the hearts and it just wouldn't highlight. Perhaps its Firefox being incompatible with the site.
Anyone using Firefox out there? If not, i seriously recommend it over Internet Explorer.
But haven't been able to get a decent thing to work on blog radio though. Hmph.
Weird weird weird

Nyx, been meaning to ask something uber geeky (not to mention bimbo at the same time); is it legal to stream songs? =) Really love your current playlist - Damien Rice is my new obsession!
Man, I hate it when things are incompatible with Firefox. =/

blink blink
n who does she target for a geeky answer?
blink blink
Posted by: -?- at March 14, 2005 2:47 PM
kenny : i use firefox - no problems so far. the number you see beside the songs are the number of days the songs have been online - sometimes files that are too old cannot be accessed....what were you trying to search?
priya : i don't know.... i justify it by telling myself that hey - they can't rip, they can't donwload into their server, they can't burn it into a cd - so it shud be ok! hehe.
-?- : ggggggggggrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, i cant even tell the difference between web based and internet based applicationsssssssss, dont tell me i'm a geekkkkkkk
Posted by: nyx at March 14, 2005 2:58 PM
only a geek cud pronounce IronWok correctly
*smile smile*
Pliya , i think the offence is committed when distributing or possessing the media files.
Posted by: -?- at March 14, 2005 3:06 PM
ooohhh....the uber geek answers the question
oooohhhh.....
Posted by: nyx at March 14, 2005 3:16 PM
oh btw ,
streaming files can be ripped,
there are softwares that store the bits as they are downloaded to your pc.
In the olden days files were downloaded first then played , then came the part while files were downloaded u cud play them( Napster uses wud remember this) and the full file wud usually be available in the Cache.
Now the latest streaming allows u play the song by transfering only bits and deleting them as u 'move' on along the track.
Software that cracks this, stores the bits of the Streaming file. It would keep appending the file with the 'bits' that are downloaded into a single file.
heck the logic being , if u can listen to a streamed song completely, in whole, then of course u can save it to a single file too, rite?
Unless the bits downloaded are encoded of course. But that wud require u, to use the player that can decode the streamed file. So eventhough the song can still be copied to a single file , this wud reduce the distribution greatly since not many people wud have the 'player'.
Of course u can further encode the packets sent( u decode the packets header) , so even when the bits are copied to a single file, it cannot be played as a whole.
Its like this , u r trying to transfer a whole village in 100 cars to another village In the former example , u wud send the 100 cars packed with people to the trainstation. the 100 cars which are moving 1 by 1 are similar to the bit streaming example. Once in the village , the passengers of the car are gathered sequently as the cars arrive. So as the last car arrives , the whole village had been transfered and they are living life normally , kan?
Now imagine the same situation but with a slight twist. Imagine, as the villagers get into the car, the cars are securely locked with a secret key. The cars still can travel to the village , sequentially of course , but the on arrival the passengers cant be regrouped until the secret key is used rite? Without the key , there's no way the villagers can continue their normal life rite?
Now thats the encoded header crap i was crapping about.
Isnt encoding lovely.

this comment thread is soooo educational AND educating at the same time!
whoaaa
-?- should get back to blogging!
Posted by: thisguy at March 16, 2005 12:02 AM
oh - and to answer priya's question- it's not legal to be streaming songs of your website, regardless of whether the music can be downloaded or not.
i brought this question up with the president of BMI and he hadn't heard of podcasting at the time but just like radio or music in a pub, the streamer has to pay royalties to an artistes' association in malaysia i think it's AAFKAP, because it's still intellectual property etc. but you're unlikely to get in trouble coz you're not worth prosecuting unless you make money off your website (which i think by putting up ads, eatingchaos.com actually does) hence justifying a case against nyx. (but honestly if the president of BMI doesn't know bout podcasting, don't worry ...yet)
Posted by: thisguy at March 16, 2005 12:07 AM
the music industry is all haphazard about the digital age. they're rewriting new laws as we speak. very interesting stuff - like if nyx plays damien rice on her radioblog, who does she pay royalties to? to the malaysian artistes' association or to an international body since her website is "global"?
it's important for consumers to learn as much as we can about this so we don't have our rights trampled on. it's also important for artistes to protect their fans and music as well from big bad record labels.
more in my blog - under the noted section.
and what IS the difference between web applications and internet applications???
Posted by: thisguy at March 16, 2005 12:11 AM
thisguy: Ah, thank you. Not that I'm particular about 'breaking the law' or anything, but was just curious.
It doesn't make much sense to me if one had to pay royalties to a local artists' association for Damien Rice, and unless they dig up an international governing body overnight, I don't think the our government would be too bothered to wade through the confusion. Unless there's pressure from the record companies (i.e. evil corporations), but I'd think they're too busy suing 12-year-old American kids downloading the latest Linkin Park re-hash.
Btw thisguy, what is your blog address? =)
Posted by: priya at March 16, 2005 2:08 AM
nyx: I meant to say that -?- was the uncontested uber geek. Hee.
-?-: Britney now? What happened to the whole Prince persona? ;)
Posted by: priya at March 16, 2005 2:10 AM
thisguy: i can start a blog just from this comments, hehe. and you're right, our mister -?- shud start a blog, he'd have a huge following. he's bigger than ali g. thanks for the music insight too...:) hmm, maybe i shud take down the ads....
priya : uncontested -?- is, giggles. giggles giggles giggles. he is I (eh, that didn't come out right....) thisguy's blog link is on under my links section (*proud to have it there*) over time, you'd find that -?- has many many many facets to his personality, so look out for more britneys and Prince and various other punctuation mark identities, grin.
Posted by: nyx at March 16, 2005 7:27 AM
priya : even local artistes associations are linked with international associations and find a way of getting the music back to damien rice. but the contention here is which associations gets a cut of the royalties they pay out. either way the artistes are compensated.
nyx: awww thanks :D - leave the adsla don't worry. it'll take awhile for music industry to pick up on podcasting, they've got enough problems on their hands like priya said.
Posted by: thisguy at March 16, 2005 10:40 PM
i'm no geeeek
i copy pasted this material from some geek website
in fact i dont even know wot this posting is all about

so you're not gonna explain the difference between web applications and internet applications?
Posted by: nyx at March 17, 2005 9:29 AM
had already explained to u
so u explain hahahaha
i had to search for
"Differences between web application n internet applications for dummies'
haha
the names themselves are give aways arent they.
web. ie www
internet. anything that connects thru a port
regardless if its udp(programs like msn, yahoo messenger icq),tcp/ip(mozilla ,IE,Netscape) woteva ler EXPOSING themselve to the outside world is
there's a fine difference between internet and intranet.
Intranet is local , controlled within a submask.
Internet is when u go world wide.
