camping at chilling waterfalls
a cocoon of bliss, that place.
it took us about an hour plus of trekking to reach the chilling waterfalls. a real easy trek - clear paths, flatland. barely two minutes into the jungle we saw several rajah brooke butterflies. loads of ferns (which i love) and bamboos (which i so love) along the path. six river crossings later, we stood in front of a dramatic double cascasding waterfall - it was absolutely fantabulous. the waterfall spilled into a little calm pool.
water - EXtremely cold, hence CHILLING waterfalls.
i went click-crazy and took a thousand over pics. will upload them later.
time is irrelevant there. problems shrank into tiny pebbles and became inconsequential. it was bliss, sleeping beneath the stars, staring at the night sky and for once having all the time in the world to watch the constellations do its slow dance. i even watched the moon making its way across the sky.
the constant sounds of the waterfall and crickets. butterflies and damsel flies that are not shy! they land right on your fingertips. the absolutely cold water.
tide spotted a huge rock platform and said to me - that's the perfect place to camp. we set up the tent - but slept outside. breeze was freezing - but oh so nice to sleep in with a warm sleeping bag.
the waterfall has a little cove around it. we climbed into its mouth - dangerous. rocks were too smooth, and current extremely strong. but what exhilaration! went as close as i dared to where the waterfall spilled - so much bubbles that they tickled me to a gleeful giggle.
we gathered wood to make a bonfire before nightfall. there is an ancient tribal quality about fire - and it's captivating just watching it. in fact, that's what we did all night after dinner. we sat by the fire, stared at it, and fed it. it was cold too - fire felt warm like a sunburn.
two fireflies zipping zapping about the river.
slept romantically under the stars - i kept waking up, and everytime i did i took a peek at the moon and at the waterfall, listened to the orchestra of insects before falling back into sleep. the rock that i slept on was slanting downwards, my brother was worried that i'd roll down in the middle of the night. hehe. i actually dreamt that i slide down into the river. twice. haha.
pitch dark in the forest at night.
in the morning - so cold! i didn't want to leave my warm sleeping bag! snuggled deeper into it while titan, with his new Caveman Tan title (he hacks bamboo with his bare hands!) braved the cold to start a fire. and i must say - it was delicious to be warmed by a fire on a chilly morning, loved every second of it.
no starbucks or coffee bean in the world can beat the coffee i had that morning. steel mug, pipping hot water, me straddling over a fallen log swinging my legs in the air looking at the rapids of the river flowing beneath me.
all along the bank there were creative rock formations left by visitors. adds a paganish touch to the scene. pictures later. i made some - it's creative, natural, artistic, time consuming and destressing. taught me that balance is a beautiful fragile thing.
i loved how i felt in there, i haven't touched that peaceful state inside myself for a long, long time.
it's funny - in the city i jump from one distraction to another, and remain bored of the choices available to me. in the jungle however - i do nothing, and it's all good. nature opens up the possibility of just being.
brother says the camping site there was luxurious - with the easy water supply, fire making material nearby, and all the rocks as our dining tables and chairs. we are definately going back soon. in fact - planning a two night stay, probably in august. yay!
this post is a whole lot of unconnected dots - having trouble writing down the many things that i relished in the trip (so many funny things happened!), my sensibilities are still trapped inside that lil peace bubble :)
this is another stamp for my collection!
pictures will be up in an hour's time - my brother is rushing me to upload them.
