singapore mini escapade
goosebumps, goosebumps, goosebumps watching phantom of the opera. it is such a well written drama with such an excellent score - the music seeps right into your skin and goes straight to the blood. absolutely enthralling to watch that familiar plot unfold and i swear i want to watch it again and again. i was filled with immense satisfaction at the end of the play - totally worth every penny i paid.
i am craving for more broadway performances of the same calibre. andrew lloyd webber is a genius. god, what a piece. i must take it upon me to splurge on one of these big performances every now and then.
singapore - we had a few hours to explore it by ourselves before rendezvousing at a buddy's place where we were crashing at. scratched our heads staring at the unfamiliar destinations on the MRT board before deciding to check Orchard Road out. and what do you know - Orchard Road is where Kinokuniya and Borders Bookstores are at. so that's where my extra hours were delightfully spent - staring at the jungle of books and gasping over a few delicious finds. oh book bliss.
passed by some streets that looked potentially interesting, museums that beckoned me in and intriguing architecture that begged to be stared at - which warrants another trip down south to sate all these little curiosities.

Next time you're in Singapore, check out Arab Street. Haji Lane especially is really amazing.

I loved the Phantom performance in Singapore too. I thought the primadonna's voice was amazing. Sitting at the front row, I felt like my ears were going to pop from the sheer intencity and pitch of her voice. And that effect didn't come from the speakers, but her mouth alone.
However, the love story doesn't feel original nor surprising. It's similar to the story of Notre Dame de Paris (another fantastic musical) and other works...
Rebecca Pitcher who plays Christine in the Singapore run of POTO didn't capture the innocence and beauty of the character at all. If anything she looked old, unattractive and haggard. She could have been a phantom herself...
