music music music
i'm in the midst of sourcing out another streaming radio like radioblog to be hosted on eatingchaos. i miss sharing music. i need something that doesnt drain my bandwidth as much as radioblog did.
my recent listens are mostly female : rachel yamagata with her sultry smokey voice crooning out dark tunes, k t tunstall and her catchy pop melodies, cat power's haunting laments, tristan prettyman's laid back songs that are so acoustically slick, and stacey kent's pixie-ish jazz renditions.
what would i do without music?
i need more new music.

watch the video, it is awesome! some music just has to be heard live. i 've been listening to kt tunstall for a few months now and this tune is not really one of my favs but the recording does it no justice. listen to her sing it live, it is infectious. i love how she used the loop pedal!

help me i can't stop

all of last night, a few stolen hours this morning, and right now - i'm listening to damien rice lamenting his heart out in The Blower's Daughter. non stop. his naked emotions, the quiet guitar, sombre violin.
the song hangs with a dark note of finality - yet it makes me feel that despite struggles, despite unmet desires - everything will turn out fine.

sarah mclachlan

was watching sarah mclachlan's live performance videos on her site. she, to me, is the epitome of a pagan goddess. compassionate, gentle and unscarred by bitterness.
i still listen to afterglow everyday, she portrays the strength of feminity beautifully and i am just in awe.

randomize me
so apple decides to come down and play with the little players who were still offering mp3 players in megabyte terms.
and apple being apple, figured they needed to add a little dash of jazz in their player, a little edge.
so wot did they do? they take away your power.
the little display screen? in the rubbish bin. no control? how dangerous! how risky! all of a sudden i'm a chained up submissive slave kneeling before my lil white dominatrix with adrenaline pumping in my veins wondering what song is gonna come up next! (thats what their marketing people got me thinking anyway)
for the uninitiated - yes, ipods, ipod minis, ipod u2, ipod photo and now, the new ipod shuffle does inspire lust (think apple think eden), and it is my opinion that they marketed this idea exceptionally well, especially with the tagline "Life is Random"
smaller than a pack of gum (wrigleys?), ipod shuffle comes in 512mb and 1gig priced at US$99 and US$149. cpu-less computers, screenless mp3 players, its anyone's guess what apple will come up with next.

to carry the weight of unravelling where we went wrong
it's all I can do to hang on
to keep me from falling into old familiar shoes

the more we take, the less we become
-world on fire-
from your mouth, mercy of your lips

waiting for someone to come pick me up off the tracks

because his clients are always impressed with his playlist - chris thought it'll be a good idea to put up a music sampler on his website (the man prides in his impeccable music taste, plus he's got an excellent music director *winkwink*, which of course is yours truly)
during the days when i was helping out at his place i always played a lil game with myself - i tried to suss out a customer's music taste and shaped the playlist accordingly. i tell you - i have a flair for clairvoyance ;)
anyway - back to topic, i plugged in the radio.blog codes into his site (his bandwidth is wayyyyyy under-used) and customized it during lunch so that its look will gel well with his site.
people - it looks wayyyy sexy and am lovin it. here's a screen shot:

november rain
when i look into your eyes i can see a love restrained
but darling when i hold you don't you know i feel the same
cause nothing lasts forever and we both know hearts can change
and it's hard to hold a candle in the cold november rain
we've been through this such a long long time just trying to kill the pain
but lovers always come and lovers always go
and no one's really sure who's letting go today, walking away
if we could take the time to lay it on the line
i could rest my head just knowing that you were mine, all mine
so if you want to love me then darling don't refrain
or i'll just end up walking in the cold november rain
do you need some time on your own, do you need some time all alone
everybody needs some time on their own
and when your fears subside and shadows still remain
i know that you can love me when there's no one left to blame
don't you think that you need somebody, don't you think that you need someone
everybody needs somebody you're not the only one
you're not the only one

tentatively announcing
so chris called. and announced that he is partner of aman now.
he's got two events planned - and roped me in to help.
one is an acoustic thingy after raya....he wants me to sing (j - how weird is this, you were just asking me to go perform on your behalf!). i haven't sung in ages, or even played :( he said i got three weeks to practice, hahaha.
anyway, just tentatively announcing something that might happen, and if it does i hope to be singing to my group of loving and supportive friends (*HINT* *HINT*)

somehow so suitable for you
There's no need to argue anymore.
I gave all I could, but it left me so sore.
And the thing that makes me mad,
Is the one thing that I had,
I knew, I knew,
I'd lose you.
You'll always be special to me, special to me, to me.
And I remember all the things we once shared,
Watching T.V. movies on the living room armchair.
But they say it will work out fine.
Was it all a waste of time.
'Cause I knew, I knew,
I'd lose you.
You'll always be special to me, special to me, to me.
Will I forget in time,
You said I was on your mind?
There's no need to argue,
No need to argue anymore.
There's no need to argue anymore.

biggest shock of my life
as i stepped into jp's car last night, linkin park was playing. a while later, TOXIC came on. my eyes went wide as a fried omelete as i whipped a real nasty look at him and hissed...
"is this cd or radio?"
"cd" he nonchalantly replied.
i frizzled into a puddle of cold sweat, self combusting from the shock and asked again...
"did YOU burn this?!?!?!"
"nolah, pasar malam wan lah dear" he replied, trying to appease the hyperventilating pool of sweat next to him.
gasping and groping around for support with my tentacles, i probed further...
"did YOU buy this?!??!!"
he looks at me, then gazed at the long road in front of him as I TRIED TO COMPREHEND WHO ON EARTH WOULD COMPILE A CD WITH LINKIN PARK AND BRITNEY SPEARS TOGETHER WHO?!?! WHO WHO WHO?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

every crack in the concrete is a regret
The city streets are wet again with rain
But I'm walkin' just the same
Skies turn to the usual grey
When you turn to face the day
And love don't show up in the pavement cracks
All my water colours fade to black
I'm goin' nowhere and I'm ten steps back
All my dreams have fallen flat
(Love don't show in the pavement cracks
There will be no turning back)
Time and space will pass us by and by
When we don't see eye to eye
I would have done anything
For happiness to bring ...
But it don't show up in the pavement cracks
I can't even cover up my tracks
I'm goin' nowhere and I'm light years back
Ooh I wish you well
How come every day
I'm still waiting for the change?
How come I still say
Give me strength to live?
Where is my comfort zone?
A simple place to call my own
'Cause everything I wanna be
Comes crashing down on me
And it don't show up in the pavement cracks
I can't even recognise my tracks
You and I can't turn the whole thing back
Ooh I wish you well

made true in recent months

walk away - ben harper
Oh no - here comes that sun again.
And that means another day without you my friend.
And it hurts me to look into the mirror at myself.
And it hurts even more to have to be with somebody else.
And it's so hard to do and so easy to say.
But sometimes - sometimes,
you just have to walk away - walk away.
With so many people to love in my life, why do I worry about one?
But you put the happy in my ness, you put the good times into my fun.
And it's so hard to do and so easy to say.
But sometimes - sometimes,
you just have to walk away - walk away and head for the door.
We've tried the goodbye so many days.
We walk in the same direction so that we could never stray.
They say if you love somebody than you have got to set them free,
but I would rather be locked to you than live in this pain and misery.
They say time will make all this go away,
but it's time that has taken my tomorrows and turned them into yesterdays.
And once again that rising sun is droppin' on down
And once again, you my friend, are nowhere to be found.
And it's so hard to do and so easy to say.
But sometimes, sometimes you just have to walk away, walk away and head for the door.
You just walk away - walk away - walk away.
You just walk away, walk on, turn and head for the door.

great angry songs

until it sleeps and wherever i may roam are two metallica songs that totally rocks my world. can't listen to 'em without hyperventilating. sad but true is another fav, in fact that was the song that inspired me to pick up drums. nothing else matters & call of ktulu drove me to better my guitar skills.
what an impact a group of four people can make aye?
ok, i can't have a metallica entry without mentioning a few more other songs (so i'll just mention) - nothing else matters, my friend of misery, fade to black, king nothing, the unforgiven, the memory remains
was driving home with metallica roaring in my ears. here's the lyrics as a tribute to an ol' skool heavy metal rawk band that still KICKS ass today! (song really puncuates the lyrics with OOMPH)
-wherever i may roam-
...and the road becomes my bride
I have stripped of all but pride
so in her I do confide
and she keeps me satisfied, gives me all I need
but I'll take my time anywhere
free to speak my mind anywhere
and I'll redefine anywhere
anywhere I may roam, where I lay my head is home
...and my ties are severed clean
the less I have the more I gain
off the beaten path I reign
rover wanderer nomad vagabond, call me what you will
-until it sleeps-
Where do I take this pain of mine.
I run but it stays right by my side.
So tear me open and pour me out
There's things inside that scream and shout,
And the pain still hates me, so hold me until it sleeps.
Just like a curse, just like a stray.
You feed it once and now it stays, now it stays.
So tear me open but beware
There's things inside without a care,
And the dirt still stains me, so wash me until I'm clean.
So tell me why you've chosen me
Don't want your grip, don't want your greed, don't want it
Now tear me open make you gone
No longer will you hurt anyone,
And the hate still shapes me, so hold me until it sleeps

you strike my heart again and again
Spend all your time waiting for that second chance
for a break that would make it okay
there's always some reason to feel not good enough
and it's hard at the end of the day
I need some distraction oh beautiful release
memories seep from my veins
let me be empty oh and weightless then maybe
I'll find some peace tonight
In the arms of the angel fly away from here
from this dark cold hotel room and the endlessness that you feel
you are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie
you're in the arms of the angel may you find some comfort here
So tired of the straight line and everywhere you turn
there's vultures and thieves at your back
the storm keeps on twisting you keep on building the lies
that you make up for all that you lack
it don't make no difference escaping one last time,
it's easier to believe
in this sweet madness oh, this glorious sadness that brings me to my knees

last month's theme song
and I went crazy again today
looking for a strand to climb, looking for a little hope
baby said he couldn't stay, wouldn't put his lips to mine,
and a fail to kiss is a fail to cope
I said, "Honey, I don't feel so good, don't feel justified,
come on put a little love here in my void,"
he said "It's all in your head," and I said, "So's everything"
but he didn't get it
I thought he was a man but he was just a little boy
hunger hurts, and I want him so bad, oh it kills,
coz I know I'm a mess he don't wanna clean up
I got to fold coz these hands are too shaky to hold
hunger hurts, but starving works, when it costs too much to love .

thoughts in gym while doing body balance
my face was inches away from the mat in gym when noticed the words. read them, liked them.
"being beautiful is nothing next to feeling beautiful"
it was a nike copy.
while going through the various motions, some lyrics would quietly creep its way to my consciousness demanding attention. like:
Annie Lennox's "A Thousand Beautiful Things"
Every day I write the list
Of reasons why I still believe they do exist
(a thousand beautiful things)
I never want to close my eyes again
Never close my eyes
i wonder if i could name a thousand beautiful things. it was hard enough to complete the "32 things that makes me happy" list chewa asked us to do last year.
Dido's "White Flag"
I know you think that I shouldn't still love you, or tell you that.
But if I didn't say it, well I'd still have felt it where's the sense in that?
I promise I'm not trying to make your life harder, or return to where we were
I will go down with this ship and I won't put my hands up and surrender
There will be no white flag above my door, I'm in love and always will be
strong, tragic and sinking. resigned but not surrendering. the lyrics just hit me.
Dido's "Life For Rent"
nothing I have is truly mine
while we're talking about lyrics, joseph arthur's line kept ringing in my head when i woke up yesterday (he is such a crooner i love him to bits)
you dream of what you never had...
